SolidWorks support is here

Jens Fursund, Oct 26, 2026
SolidWorks parts and assemblies now convert to STEP, DWG and DXF as real solids, not triangles.

We've worked hard to give you comprehensive SolidWorks support.

Convert3D imports SolidWorks parts (SLDPRT) and assemblies (SLDASM), with each part placed where it belongs in the assembly.

Most converters handle CAD formats like these by tessellating them: they turn the surfaces into triangles. That is lossy, and important details are lost along the way.

To keep that information, we convert the CAD data directly to the CAD output format you need. Export to STEP, or to AutoCAD's DWG and DXF, and your part arrives as a solid with its exact surfaces: a hole is still a cylinder, a fillet is still a fillet. Open it in AutoCAD and it is a 3D solid you can measure and edit, in millimetres.

When you need a mesh for a game engine, a website or a 3D printer, we still tessellate for GLB, OBJ, STL, FBX and the rest.

How to use this right now

Drop in an SLDPRT or SLDASM file and pick STEP, DWG or DXF to stay on the CAD path, or any mesh format for everything else:
