    Search for the output format

Click the magnifying glass, or press Cmd Shift F on a Mac or Ctrl Shift F elsewhere, to search the output formats. Type a format such as obj and press Enter to start the conversion.

The whole list also scrolls together, with the scrollbar at the edge of the sidebar.

USDZ files open in iOS AR Quick Look

USDZ files from Convert3D now open in iOS AR Quick Look, and you can place the model on a flat surface.

Textures look right too. Roughness and metalness maps are kept when the material has a value other than 1.

    Share converted files with Transfer

You couldn't share a result from Convert3D without downloading it and sending it yourself. Now you can click Transfer after a conversion, add an email, title and message, choose when the link expires and get a shareable link.

Recipients open the link and see a 3D preview with a download button. You can protect a transfer with a password. Pro adds longer expiry options. Your transfers are listed in one place, where you can delete them.

Transfer is also available after compressing a model and after a batch conversion.

Ask for a format we don't support

If the format you needed wasn't in the list, there was no way to tell us. The format list now ends with an "Other" link. Type the format you want, press Request, and we see it along with the format you started from.

SolidWorks assemblies include their embedded parts

Convert3D now reads each part embedded in a SolidWorks assembly and adds it to the result, not only the combined shape stored in the main file. If one part can't be read, it is skipped and the rest convert.

CAD to CAD conversions keep exact shapes

Convert3D now passes the exact solid shape between CAD formats, such as SolidWorks to STEP, whenever the source file has one. Smooth curved surfaces stay smooth instead of turning into triangles.

    SolidWorks parts come out smooth

SolidWorks parts now come out smooth in the browser. Convert3D builds the surface from the exact solid shape, so curves stay smooth.

Some parts had come out faceted because Convert3D fell back to the lower-quality mesh stored in the file.

SolidWorks files convert in the browser

You couldn't open SolidWorks files in Convert3D before. Now you can upload parts, assemblies and drawings (SLDPRT, SLDASM and SLDDRW), including files saved before SolidWorks 2015.

Convert3D reads the exact solid shape and keeps the face colors. When it can't read the solid, it uses the mesh stored inside the file instead.

Faster, more accurate Blender file import

Blender (.blend) files are now read directly, for Blender versions 2 through 4, including compressed files. If the new reader can't handle a file, Convert3D falls back to the old one.

    AI Create fits small screens

A dropped image now shows as a small row with a thumbnail and file name that you can expand, so the Generate button stays on the page on a small laptop screen. The sidebar scrolls when it is too tall, and the delete button is always visible.

MAX files import with their geometry

The importer now finds the real scene in .max files, so they import with their geometry. Some files had ended with "No geometry found" because the importer read the wrong part of the file first.

    New 3ds Max importer

3ds Max (.max) files are now read by a new importer. It reads Standard, V-Ray and Corona materials, including settings like IOR, transmission and emission, and it puts materials on the right parts of multi-material objects. UV coordinates from Editable Poly and Editable Mesh objects come through as well.

    AI Create works on phones

AI Create now fits a small screen. On a phone, the form sits on top, the 3D preview is in the middle and your history scrolls sideways along the bottom. A menu button replaces the sidebar, and the download button opens a sheet from the bottom. A dropped image shrinks to a small thumbnail you can expand.

AI Create makes 3D models from text or images

You can now create 3D models from a text prompt or a picture. Start as many generations as you want without waiting for the first to finish.

Your generated models are kept in a history list in your browser, each with a preview image, so you can come back to them later.

    Empty conversion results are flagged

Some files are valid but contain no objects the converter can read. Convert3D now checks the result and reports a failed conversion when the scene is empty, so you know the file needs another route. Before, you got an empty file and an empty preview.

The render page runs smoothly and shows Download

OBJ files with n-gons load, and look right from both sides

A clear message when a file type is not supported

When you drop a file Convert3D can't read, it now checks the file type first. For an unsupported type, it shows a dialog and asks what you wanted to do with the file, so we can see which formats people need.

Files that need special advice, such as MAX, SKP, glTF, MTL, images and Blender files, still get their own help.
